January 2021 WSL Monthly Communique

Waldorf School of Louisville Communique

Dear WSL Community,

Welcome to 2021!  The faculty and staff are delighted to be back with your children in person.  Classes are going well and the students are enjoying each other’s company. We are being conscientious of how we interact and stridently holding to our safety protocols; this diligence, as well as your habits at home, have kept our community as safe as possible.  Because of this, we are gratefully able to return to campus and we hope these habits enable us to continue with our day to day schedule for the remainder of the term.

There are significant changes on the horizon for WSL.  The Teaching and Administrative Faculty, as well as the Board of Trustees, are close to unveiling a new collaborative vision for the immediate and long term future of the school.  We are excited to share the details, but there is a bit more work to do before we make all things public.  Because of this work and its imminent announcement, we have postponed re-enrollment until January 25.

To be clear, our institution is in fine shape fiscally and programmatically.  There is no uncertainty about our capacity to continue the work of our mission.  The re-enrollment delay is giving us the time to complete a comprehensive picture of what next fall will look like.  The forthcoming changes are school-wide affecting every sphere of activity.  We want these changes to be part of what you consider when you re-enroll.

Expect this announcement by January 22. Blessings on our work!

Dearest Waldorf Community,

I want to thank every one of you for making Winter Faire a success. So many parents worked hard to make the event magical for our kids, and I am so grateful for the love and dedication you put into our virtual Faire.

I think many of you know, right before Winter Faire, our family was hit with some disappointing news, and as a single, working (sole)parent, this news and heading the PA was too much to juggle. After running on no sleep and working or caretaking almost every waking hour, I tried holding out until after Winter Faire. Thank you for the parents that stepped in when and where I could not.

Due to COVID rescheduling, and business growth, my work schedule has forced me into a choice: continue as is and have no time with my child, or let something go and be the mom I need to be. Since I am the sole breadwinner, I could not sacrifice work, so I made the tough decision to withdraw from the PA leadership. I had let those at last month’s PA meeting know I planned to step down and asked for anyone to step up where they could. As of this writing, I do not know who will take over the leadership of the PA. If someone wishes to head the organization and lead it, please let Graham, our Board of Trustees Chair, know (boardchair@waldorflouisville.com). I’m happy to help answer any questions or provide any resources I can.

Again, I want to thank everyone who has volunteered their time and energy to making Waldorf such a wonderful school, even through this pandemic. I hope everyone’s 2021 will be much better than 2020.

Sincerely,

Diane Haag
